Our Story
Little Lammies was born out of a passion for creativity, community, and sustainable craftsmanship.
Founded by Carrie, a Wellington-based mother of two, and Alex, her sister living in Nepal for the past decade, our business thrives on the fusion of New Zealand wool and the skillful hands of Nepali artisan felters
Our Mission
-
At Little Lammies, we believe in more than just creating toys. Our mission is to:
-
Empower Women
We collaborate with Kanchima Sherpa in Nepal, providing employment and training opportunities for a talented group of women. Together, we felt our products, with each piece designed by Alex herself.
-
Champion Natural Fibers
We exclusively work with New Zealand wool, celebrating its warmth, softness, and eco-friendliness. Our commitment to natural materials ensures that every Little Lammies creation is safe for both children and the environment.
-
Promote Fair Trade
Our small, close-knit environment fosters a fear-free, safe, and happy workspace. We prioritize ethical practices, ensuring fair wages and respectful treatment for our team.
-
Connecting Cultures
By combining New Zealand’s farming heritage with the craftsmanship of Nepali women, we create unique, handcrafted toys that tell a global story.
-
Care for Our Planet
Sustainability is at our core. We strive to minimize our environmental impact, from sourcing materials to packaging, so that future generations can enjoy the beauty of Little Lammies.
Our Makers
Kanchi Maam
Kanchima and our dedicated team create our beautiful fruit and veggie range, as well as our baskets. Based in Boudha, Kathmandu, Kanchima collaborates with 13 talented women from the local community. Kanchima is our original collaborator and connecting with her and her decades of experience has made little lammies possible
Our Boudha workspace is located on the ground floor, specifically designed and built within the garden of Kanchima's house.
Kanchima's home is warm and welcoming, often providing informal after-school care for the children of her staff. Plus, she is renowned for serving the most delicious dal bhat (Thali - Rice and Dal) you could ever taste.
Being with Kanchima is always a laugh and a half, we have a great working and personal relationship.
Disabled Service Center
Disabled Service Center (DSC) is a small non-profit organization located in Kathmandu that has been dedicated to providing employment, housing, and community support for individuals with disabilities since its founding by Chandra in 2014, DSC has grown to serve 32 individuals and sustains itself through the production of high-quality felt products.
At Little Lammies, we proudly support DSC by outsourcing the production of our finger puppets to their talented team. By partnering with DSC, we not only ensure the highest quality for our products but also contribute to empowering individuals with disabilities and supporting their community.
